Nick Wayne is an AEW wrestler. He is the only child of the late wrestler Buddy Wayne and his wife Shayne Wayne. Wyane is a third generation wrestler who comes from a wrestling family (father and maternal grandparents). His father and mother encouraged his interest in the ring from the beginning.
The high-flyer’s father is no longer here to celebrate his son’s achievements, but he still left a legacy for him to carry on. The elder Wayne died when Nick was only 11 years old, leaving his mother to raise him into a lovely young man. The one-time DEFY World Champion was born Nick Finely on July 10, 2005 in Seattle, Washington, although he is better known by his ring name “Nick Wayne”. Wayne made his wrestling debut in 2018 and has since competed for Without A Cause, Lucha Libre Volcanica and Invasion Championship Wrestling.
Darby Allin, a wrestler and friend, offered him an AEW contract on February 12, 2022, when he was 16 years old. Nick was still a student at Cascade High School at the time. So, after he finishes high school and turns 18, he will be able to go from being an apprentice to becoming a professional wrestler. He debuted for AEW Dynamite on July 12, 2023 (two days after his 18th birthday), but lost to Swerve Strickland. He joins the ranks of wrestlers such as Sting, Chris Jericho, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy and Adam Cole to name a few.

Nick Wayne’s parents: Buddy Wayne and Shayna
Buddy Wayne, Wayne’s father, is a retired wrestler and Shayna, Wayne’s mother, is a model. They got married in the early 2000s. On September 17, 2017, three months after his death, she posted a photo of herself with her husband on Twitter and stated that they had been together for over a decade.
“3 months today… 13 years… today,” she wrote. “I am speechless.”
Buddy (real name: Steve Finley) Wayne, father of Nick Wayne, made his wrestling debut in 1985 for All-Star Wrestling in Vancouver. The late wrestler was well known in the Pacific Northwest and worked for organizations such as Championship Wrestling USA. From the 1990s to 2003, he wowed audiences in WCW and WWE with his skills, joining the ranks of Shawn Michaels, Bam Bam Bigelow and Edge.
Buddy Wayne Academy was founded in 2006 in Everett, Washington by Buddy and his wife Shayna. He never officially retired from wrestling despite his reduced number of in-ring appearances, but he was experienced on stage whenever he entered. It is not unexpected that the families of professional wrestlers appear in the plot of the series, and his wife is no exception. She was born Shayna Edwards and comes from a wrestling family: her uncle, Moondog Ed Moretti, was a wrestling legend. She is engaged in modeling, and often posts pictures from her modeling performances on Instagram.
He was detained with his mother at the airport
Wayne and his mother were detained in Iceland with an emergency landing on July 24, 2022, while returning home after the former’s PROGRESS Wrestling debut in Frankfurt, Germany. It was because of the bomb threat written on the bathroom mirror. Authorities questioned his mother, Shayna, suspecting she was in possession of the beauty kit used to write the threats. Later, the wrestler confirmed that the mother-son team had returned home safely.
Wayne’s father died when he was 11 years old
Nick’s father, Buddy Wayne, died of a heart attack on June 17, 2017, while he was a pre-teen. The late wrestler had a history of heart problems, having undergone open-heart surgery in 2009 and another in 2013. His death shocked and saddened the family, leaving his wife Shayna to deal with mothering their only son, who was 11 at the time. Wayne’s wrestling career is undoubtedly a tribute to his wrestler father.
According to reports, Nick began wrestling seriously when he was nine years old and trained with his father. On April 27, 2018, he made his wrestling debut at the age of 13, two years after his father’s death.
Nick Wayne, has he given up on his mother?
On October 18, 2023, during an episode of Dynamite, Wayne sat with his mother and the show’s host, Jim Ross, and appeared to disown his parents. They discussed how he left longtime friend Darby Allin at WrestleDream on October 1, standing with Christian Cage during Cage vs. Allin for the AEW TNT Championship. Nick noted in the interview that he had discovered a new “father figure”, alluding to Cage and that the latter was “a better father figure than his father ever was”.
Christian then entered the scene, trying to take Wyane with him. As his mother, Shayna, sobbed and tried to stop him, he exclaimed, “You’re a terrible mother,” to which she responded with applause. Furthermore, she soon shared the recording of the interview on Instagram. While it may seem authentic, fans familiar with the theatrical wrestling plot talk about it as a dramatic setting for a future story.
