Marcus McClung’s parents met at Virginia Tech, where his father was a football player and his mother was a cheerleader. Mac inherited his athletic abilities from his parents, and as he grew up, he followed in his father’s footsteps and started playing football. However, when he was in the seventh grade, his mother signed him up for a local youth league and basketball. Over time, Mac became interested in basketball and began training daily with the hope of making it to the National Basketball Association. He eventually played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
McClung is rated as a three-star prospect and one of Virginia’s top high school athletes. After the 2021 NBA draft, McClung went undrafted but eventually signed with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. He then played for the South Bay Lakers in the G League, where he was named Rookie of the Year for the 2021-22 season. Last year, McClung made history by becoming the first G-League player to win the Slam Dunk Contest.
Mac McClung Parents: Marcus and Lenoir McClung
Mac McClung was born on January 6, 1999 in Gate City, Virginia, and was raised by parents Marcus and Lenoir McClung. Marcus and Lenoir were athletes at Virginia Tech. Mac’s father, Marcus, excelled in football, playing tight end and linebacker in the early 1990s. Likewise, Lenoir was a cheerleader at the same institution. They met at university and eventually got married. Marcus went on to practice law, eventually becoming the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Scott County, Virginia, while Lenoir taught driver’s instruction at Gate City High.
Their sporting background had a significant impact on Mac’s upbringing. According to Marcus, Mac had a competitive attitude from an early age, always ready to turn even the most basic activities into a battle. Mac was first intrigued by football and was instructed by his father. However, when he got older, his interests shifted to basketball. Marcus was glad when Mac decided to focus on basketball, especially since he quit football after his junior year of high school.
Mac McClung’s sister Anna is a former soccer player
Anna McClung, Mac McClung’s older sister, was born on November 9, 1994. She is five years older than him. Anna, like her father, started playing soccer at an early age and eventually became one of the top recruits in the country. In 2013, Top Drawer Soccer listed her as the third recruit and first striker.
Anna graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc.) in Public Relations. During her college years, she was an active member of the women’s soccer team and earned a spot on the SEC Honor Roll. Before coming to Tennessee, Anna played for the Florida State University women’s soccer team. Anna now works as an Account Executive at Assured Partners and has a beautiful married life with her husband.
