Dave and Lisa Roigard are the parents of Cam Roigard. Cam is a New Zealand rugby player who plays for the Hurricanes in the Super Rugby League. Dave Roigard, his father, was a former Waikato champion with three decades of racing experience. Dave started out as a crew member for former New Zealand champion Geoff Fletcher. He had the possibility to eventually become a driver from a crew member. He raced in super stocks for about five years prior to the news before moving to the sedan class for age-related reasons.
Given Dave’s involvement with Speedway, it was only natural that his guys would do the same. Both Stefan and Cam began their racing careers in small tracks, with Stefan eventually moving up to the saloon division when he became eligible. Without Dave, Stefan was able to finish the season in his father’s vehicle, which allowed Cam to move up to the sedan class in his brother’s car. Cam entered the world of rugby in 2021. He said his goal had always been to play rugby full-time with the Hurricanes.
Despite being actively involved in speedway racing and helping his brother as a crew member, he decided to retire from the sport. He eventually moved on to saloon racing, where he finished second in the New Zealand championships. While juggling his involvement in rugby and speedway, Roigard’s career changed when he was offered a contract with the Hurricanes in 2021.
He got this opportunity as an injured replacement for Jamie Booth, who had a leg injury. He planned to join the Hurricanes only for preseason training, but ended up staying for the entire season. His effort and performance earned him a permanent contract until 2022 and he has been progressing in his rugby career ever since.
