Matty Healy responds to backlash over Ice Spice jokes and says people are ‘deluded’ for being angry

Matty Healy has already faced a lot of backlash for comments he previously made about Ice Spice in February and now he’s finally responding to the controversy.

The 34-year-old musician, leader of the band The 1975, appeared on the podcast. The Adam Friedland Show earlier this year to promote his band’s new album.

On the show, the hosts mentioned that Ice Spice had mentioned that she was a big fan of The 1975 and proceeded to call her a “chubby Chinese lady” and said she sounds like an “Inuit space girl.” Matty laughed as the hosts continued to make fun of the Chinese and Hawaiian accents.

During a concert in New Zealand in April, Matty initially apologized to Ice Spice. He said at the time: “I feel a little bad and I’m a little sorry if I’ve offended you. Ice Spice, sorry. It’s not because I’m upset that my joke was misinterpreted. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m stupid. I love you, ice spice. Very sorry. “I don’t want it to be misinterpreted as bad.”

In recent weeks, Matty has been romantically linked to Taylor Swift, who just collaborated with Ice Spice on the “Karma” remix. Timing has put quotes back in the spotlight.

Now, Matty is opening up again in a new interview, in which he called out people angry about the “misleading” comments.

Matty was asked The New Yorker if he purposely harassed his fans during the podcast.

“A little bit,” he responded. “But it doesn’t really matter. Nobody’s sitting there at night, slumped in front of her computer, and her boyfriend comes up and says, ‘What’s wrong, honey?’ and they say, ‘It’s just this with Matty Healy.’ “That doesn’t happen.”

The interviewer said that maybe people do feel that way. He replied: “If so, either you are deceived or, sorry, you are a liar. Either you’re lying that you’re hurt or you’re a little crazy for being hurt. It’s just people saying, ‘Oh, there’s something bad there, let me get as close as possible so you can see how good I am.’ And I kind of want them to do that, because they’re demonstrating something on such a basic level.”

Much more was revealed in the interview and we have all the highlights for you in one place.
