Matthew Semelsberger – Education
He completed his education at Urbana High School and received his diploma in 2011. He played Division I-AA football on a scholarship at Marist College while majoring in criminal justice. However, he finally gave up just as he was beginning his MMA career.
He enrolled in a nearby school’s MMA program at the age of 14. Matthew wanted to learn to fight after participating in youth wrestling for a time. His passion for the game led him to start working towards his UFC dream.
Career and professional life
He began his career as an American footballer. But over time, his passion changed and he began to focus on MMA. On July 28, 2012 he faced JP Saint Louis in his amateur debut, which marked the beginning of his MMA career. He competed in his first professional MMA fight on April 8, 2017 and defeated Donelei Benedetto in the second round.
The next fight, against Scott Noble, was a victory for Matthew, however, on October 6, 2018 he lost to Jerome Featherstone once again. He never looked back after that setback and started exercising more. Similarly, he faced Carlton Minus on August 22, 2020 and won by unanimous decision in his UFC debut.
He survived Jason Witt in the first round of his second UFC fight, winning in the 16th second. Additionally, he received the UFC Fight Night Performance of the Night award for his victory due to his outstanding performance.
He currently plays for the Crazy 88 team as well as Clinch Academy. In 2021, he last fought Khaos Williams at UFC The Korean Zombie vs. Ige, but he lost. On September 26 he will face Martín Sano Jr. in the next fight at UFC 266, which will mark the long-awaited return of his opponent.
