Late time fans Friends Actor Matthew Perry may have been scammed. The actor’s X account was reportedly hacked by scammers.
Currently, the Matthew Perry Foundation uses Perry’s social media to engage with people about his cause. However, bad actors hacked the actor’s X page and encouraged his followers to donate to a fraudulent site.
On Instagram, the foundation warned its followers not to fall for the scam. They revealed that scammers hacked into the account, discouraging people from donating to fake sites.
“We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and directs users to a fraudulent site soliciting donations via cryptocurrency,” the Foundation wrote. “Please do not donate to this site or share fraudulent posts on social media.”
He continued, “MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the only website associated with the Foundation as we only accept donations through this site.”
It appears that the Foundation regained control of the account. They deleted all the fake posts and the last post was from October 26, 2023. It was two days before the tragic death of the actor.
“Perfect movies: 1) Back to the Future, 2) Midnight Race, 3) _________? -I’m Mattman,” the publication said.
The Matthew Perry Foundation is created after the death of the actor
The Matthew Perry Foundation was formed after the actor’s death. The Foundation’s mission is to help people suffering from addiction.
“In the spirit of Matthew Perry’s long-standing commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, we embarked on a journey to honor his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation, guided by his own words and experiences and driven for his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible,” the Foundation wrote in a statement.
Before his passing, Perry opened up about his own battles with substance abuse. The actor was candid about his past flaws (via Fox News). “I never tried it, but I did so many drugs at certain times that I knew they could kill me,” Perry said. “But I would, but I never wanted to die.”
Addiction continued to be a battle Perry often faced. The actor checked into rehab on 15 different occasions.
“It’s important, but if you lose your sobriety, it doesn’t mean you lose all that time and education,” Perry said. “Your sobriety date changes, but that’s all that changes. You know everything you knew before, as long as you can fight your way back without dying, you learn a lot.”
