The late actor’s friend, Athenna Crosby, with whom he was seen having dinner the day before his death, spoke about her desire to create a biopic and even revealed who she hoped would play him: Zac Efron.

Athenna shared that Matthew wanted to reunite with his ex 17 again co-star Zac of the project.
She said People he wanted Zac to play him because “he already played him” and “because he said he did a good job.”
If you remember, Zac played the younger version of Matthew’s character in the 2009 romantic comedy for most of the movie, after he transformed back into a teenager to try to fix his past and correct his mistakes, but most of all, I just needed to appreciate what I had.
Following the news of his death, a quote from his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” resurfaced about what Matthew hoped to be remembered for.
