“There have been many times in my life where I was approached for a major role,” said Matthew, before getting into the story. “I lost my agency because I went to the hotel room, which I can’t believe I was sent to, of a very prominent Oscar-winning director who showed up in a robe, he asked me to take off my clothes. And he said he needed to get me some Polaroids.”
He went on to say, “And then if I did X, Y, and Z, I would be the next Marvel character. I didn’t do that, and my agency fired me because I left this director’s room.”
He said that “a lot of my other male friends” had similar experiences, but he opined that it was a “double standard”, using Terry Crews as an example. The actor filed a police report in a groping case involving WME agent Adam Venit in 2017.
“Terry Crews comes out and says it; people laugh at him. People don’t support him. They kick him out. Because? Because he is a man who represents masculinity, and I think our society is less prepared to hear that situation with men than with women.”
“In my opinion, not many guys have come out and talked about this in the industry. There is also this same situation,” she said. “Now granted, it’s probably about a third of what women go through. The number of men… Men go through this too, whether it’s another woman or another man in power.”
Matthew made headlines earlier this year about a new relationship.
