Coaching Career
Back in 2003, and 2004, Matt Weiss was an assistant coach at Smyrna High School, helping to introduce a tutoring program that supported student-athletes in gaining NCAA eligibility.
Later, he started coaching as an offensive assistant at Western Michigan in 2007, where he worked with the team’s quarterbacks and wide receivers. He then spent two seasons as an offensive quality control coach at Stanford University under head coach Jim Harbaugh. During his time at Stanford, Weiss was a part of the coaching staff that helped lead the team to a 12-1 record and an Orange Bowl victory in 2010.
After finishing his time at Stanford, he spent a season as the wide receivers coach at Buffalo before returning to Stanford in 2012 as the team’s quarterbacks coach. In 2014, he was named the team’s passing game coordinator, and he helped lead the team to two more Pac-12 titles and a Rose Bowl victory.
In the year 2017, he joined the Baltimore Ravens as an offensive assistant and worked with the team’s quarterbacks. He was promoted to the position of quarterbacks coach in 2019, and he was a part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Ravens to a playoff appearance that year.
Weiss joined the coaching staff at the University of Michigan in 2021 as the team’s quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2022. He was put on leave in December 2022 while university police investigated computer access crimes. On January 20, 2023, Weiss was fired by the University.
