Massive Thrawn Spoiler Seemingly Confirmed By Ahsoka Episode 2’s Ending

This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episodes 1 & 2.Ahsoka episode 2’s ending has unwittingly confirmed a major Thrawn spoiler – revealing the outcome of Morgan Elsbeth’s quest. Grand Admiral Thrawn vanished in Star Wars Rebels‘ finale, his flagship dragged into hyperspace by a flock of Star Wars‘ space whales, the purrgil. He’s been missing for over nine years now, but the Imperial Remnants are hoping his return will reinvigorate their forces.

Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2 revealed the purrgil dragged Thrawn’s flagship along their migration route – all the way to a distant galaxy. Morgan Elsbeth has constructed a new ship to travel through the void between the galaxies, the Eye of Sion. The Eye of Sion is based on familiar technology, the Jedi hyperspace rings seen in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. It integrates hyperspace drives from Super Star Destroyers, some of the most powerful in the galaxy. It’s also notable for an unusual golden bridge – a familiar one seen before.

Thrawn Has Already Been Seen On The Eye Of Sion’s Bridge

Lucasfilm initially held off showing Grand Admiral Thrawn’s face. The very first image of Thrawn simply showed the back of his head instead. He was stood on a very unusual, distinctive bridge – a golden one that’s now very familiar indeed. Concept art has shown Thrawn on this golden bridge, which was initially assumed to be linked to allies he had gained. But it is now clear he is stood on the bridge of the Eye of Sion. This image and concept art essentially confirms the outcome of Morgan’s quest.

Ahsoka Is Heading To Another Galaxy

To be fair, there’s a sense in which this shouldn’t be a massive surprise. Ahsoka has introduced one of te most exciting new ideas since Disney acquired Star Wars back in 2012, a brand new galaxy, one with incredible potential. It would be absurd for Star Wars to introduce such a compelling concept – and then choose not to explore it. This is presumably why Lucasfilm felt confident enough to let such a massive spoiler slip in the first place.

This does, however, have significant implications for the rest of the story. It means Ahsoka will fail in her mission to stop Morgan, because the Nightsister and her allies will make the jump to intergalactic space. The only question is how Ahsoka and her allies will get there too. It’s possible they’ll manage to stow aboard the Eye of Sion, and thus travel the pathway to Peridea as well. Alternatively, the Ahsoka trailers have shown some purrgil – the space whales that dragged Thrawn off to the Unknown Regions in the first place. If the Eye of Sion leaves the galaxy, Ahsoka could use the Force to compel a purrgil to help her pursue it.

What Will Ahsoka Find In Another Galaxy?

Star Wars is about to boldly go where it has never gone before – across the intergalactic void, and on to an entirely different galaxy. Peridea is considered a fairy tale among the Jedi – which means Ahsoka will know about it too. But, more conceringly, Morgan hinted the Jedi do not know the truth about Peridea. She even suggested the Nightsisters of Dathomir know it by another name. Whatever that name may be, it’s surely significant that she avoided saying it; presumably it too is something known to the Jedi, something feared because of its dark legacy.

In the first Star Wars movie, Obi-Wan Kenobi claimed the Force binds the entire galaxy together. The franchise is now going beyond the galaxy, though, and it’s reasonable to assume the same rules of the Force will not apply. This may well be the source of the strange magic wielded by the Nightsisters of Dathomir, which has never really made sense because it is so unlike the powers used by Jedi and Sith. Ahsoka episode 2 certainly seemed to hint at this, because Morgan was able to use Nightsister magic to activate the starmap.

All this means Peridea is likely to be a very hostile place for Ahsoka and her friends. Worse still, Grand Admiral Thrawn has been there for years, meaning he’s had plenty of time to study the science and sorcery of the ancient aliens who came from Peridea. Thrawn may even have allied with them, meaning he’s no longer working for the Empire – but for something else, something darker and far older, something that originates in another galaxy. Only time will tell what Ahsoka has in store.

Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6pm PT / 9pm ET on Disney+.
