Marvel Reveals New Guardians of the Galaxy Costumes

Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy #1 by Marvel ComicsIn a new tease for the Guardians of the Galaxy’s latest story arc, Grootfall, Star-Lord, and the gang are getting all-new costumes. In a first look at the cosmic heroes in the new Guardians of the Galaxy series coming from Marvel Comics, Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Mantis, and Nebula are seen wearing new outfits and looks as the superteam’s latest adventure will take them in a much different direction.

Marvel Comics has dropped clues regarding the publisher’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy series, hinting at a new storyline, “Grootfall.” Previous teases of the comic have shared that the Guardians have been somehow fractured, as the arc’s name suggests something dire might have happened to Groot. Marvel’s newest look at the series shows the team getting new costumes, as Star-Lord and four more heroes get all-new outfits that add more intrigue to what’s coming next.

The Guardians of the Galaxy’s New Costumes Hints At The Team Becoming Fractured

The five characters selected show the current state of the Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel Comics. The team was massive in Al Ewing and Juann Cabal’s most recent run on the series, while they protected the galaxy as the Galactic Council. However, only five members in new costumes are shown in the image. The gun-slinging Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, and Nebula get lower-tech outfits that mix Western and primal details. Mantis looks completely different than usual, sporting what appears to be a giant robotic arm – or at the very least, a massive gauntlet.

Even with new costumes, it seems Marvel Comics is trying to make the “Grootfall” team align more with the MCU’s version of the Guardians of the Galaxy, as all five heroes featured in the image are appearing in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Meanwhile, the likes of Nova, Moondragon, and Quasar – none of whom have appeared in live-action and were on the last team – are nowhere to be seen.

The question remains, where are Rocket Racoon and Groot? Is one or both of the cosmic heroes going missing the event that brings the fractured team back together? It will be interesting to see what direction Marvel Comics goes with the new Guardians of the Galaxy series, as it has a tough act to follow with Ewing and Cabal’s excellent recent arc. The new “Grootfall” arc in the latest Guardians of the Galaxy comic book will debut in April, with the creative team yet to be revealed.
