After a weekend of accusations and tweets regarding Kabrhel’s conduct during the $250,000 Hold’em Super High Roller game from several high-stakes experts, including Phil Hellmuth, Chance Kornuth and Andrew Roble, the WSOP released a brief statement about the investigation. In the high stakes poker scene, Kabrhel, an inherently hardcore player, was accused of gambling.
Although accusations of fraud are common in the poker world, the names of players are largely ignored and cases are mentioned only in general terms. When Robl addressed the issue live on Twitter, the accusations against Kabrhel changed course:
How did Martin Kabrhel not get banned from the WSOP? He makes no tournament interesting to anyone, and on top of that, I’ve seen him gamble in every tournament I’ve played with him.

Even Kornuth and Hellmuth, who sat at the same table as Kabrhel, confirmed the Tweet accusing Robl. At one point, Kabrhel and Kornuth had a verbal argument that prompted the WSOP to warn about the situation. The WSOP launched an immediate investigation and today provided the following summary statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
“While we do not discuss specific security protocols used to monitor players and gaming devices, game integrity is still paramount and we can ensure told fellow sponsors that we take these allegations very seriously. As this is an ongoing investigation, no further comment is available at this time.”
WSOP is known for using modern techniques to detect card fraud and ban them from the contest. Given the massive popularity of the event, it’s likely that the WSOP will remove Kabrhel from the over $5 million event if he uncovers evidence of fraud. Kabrhel finished third and earned more than $2 million, while Chris Brewer won.
Kabrhel hints at legal proceedings for defamation
A final table player named Dan Smith began criticizing Kabrhel the day after the initial allegations, telling him he hoped Kabrhel would be banned from the WSOP. Earlier this evening, Kabrhel responded to the accusations on his own Twitter:
In the name of yesterday’s situation, I feel the need to speak. @Andrew_Robl yesterday he posted an accusation on twitter that i gamble and cheat in poker tournaments. I was shocked how quickly people took it as a clear, true claim without proof and..

In his lengthy response, spanning several tweets, Kabrhel said he intends to confront his accuser.
“Since it is so easy to refute such allegations in a prestigious series like the WSOP, I have decided to file a lawsuit against Andrew Robles,” Kabrhel wrote on Twitter. The subject of the tweet was Kabrhel’s official comment on the matter, he said in a statement to PokerOrg.
