News of Marianne Lumb

A professional chef from Leicestershire will show off his culinary skills on BBC’s Great British Menu this week. One of four chefs competing to represent central England is Marianne Lumb, from Long Clawson, near Melton Mowbray.

After a four-year absence, Marianne returned to the Great British Menu kitchen. She previously entered series 13 and went straight to the final round of the competition, but claims that this time she is more motivated than ever to claim the crown.

Paddington Bear’s 65th birthday in 2023 served as the inspiration for this year’s Great British Menu, which honors the country’s achievements in animation and illustration. At the party held at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, chefs from across the UK, divided into eight geographic regions or countries, compete to create a meal.

The famous palace, immortalized by Raymond Briggs in his favorite story “The Snowman”, is also the first site of the Brighton School of Art, England’s oldest art school. The chefs are tasked with creating delicious dishes that respect the illustrations and animation. Dishes served included the Soup Dragon appetizer that pays homage to the classic stop motion animated film The Clangers and the delectable venison crocodile wellington for the main course reimagining Quentin Blake’s illustrations. about an edible alligator for Roald Dahl’s 1979 cookbook.

This week’s shows, starting tonight, Tuesday, March 21, focus on the chefs of central England. Before one of the four chefs is fired, the other three will prepare their appetizers and fish dishes.

Chef Andi Oliver hosts and judges are chef Tom Kerridge, restaurateur Nisha Katona and comedian and foodie Ed Gamble.

Marianne, who finished third in the 2009 season of MasterChef: The Professionals, is passionate about wild and unusual ingredients, such as English truffles and English game. Viewers will be able to see her reinventing the Melton Mowbray pork pie in the comedy series Great British Menu, which was inspired by the Magic Roundabout and the popular British cartoon Private Eye.
