Career
Taylor began her musical career at the age of fifteen with Orenda Fink in the band Little Red Rocket. Who Did You Pay (1997) and It’s in the Sound (2000) were two Geffen releases from the band. The band broke up amid the merger of Geffen Records and Universal Music Group. Taylor then moved to Athens, Georgia with her musical partner Fink. There they formed the band Azure Ray.
WARM signed the duo, and they released their self-titled debut as well as their second album, Burn and Shiver. Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst took the band on tour and recommended them to Saddle Creek after meeting them in Athens. Saddle Creek followed with an EP in November and Hold on Love. Taylor and Fink went on a six-year hiatus after the release of Hold on Love, in which they released separate albums. On May 24, 2005, Saddle Creek Records released her first solo album, 11:11.
Taylor has also worked with Bright Eyes, Joshua Radin, Moby, Crooked Fingers, Whispertown, Abra Moore and Nik Freitas. Her music is often included in major TV programs and films. Azure Ray’s song “Sleep” was included in the Oscar-nominated film The Devil Wears Prada, which was released in 2006. Her song “Time Lapse Lifeline” was included in the “Bones” episode “The Beaver In The Otter”.
