Manoj Joshi is an Indian theater artist, actor and film and theater director. In 2018, she received the Padma Shri award for her work in the field of acting. He is best known for playing the character of Chanakya in the Hindi-Gujarati theater play ‘Chanakya’ for over 25 years.

Manoj Joshi aka Manoj N Joshi was born on Friday, 3 September 1965 (age 57 years; as in 2022) in Goregaon, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Virgo. He studied BA from Mithibai College of Arts, Mumbai. Later, he did a Diploma in Commercial Art from Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai. While he was studying in college, he attended theater classes and painting classes. He wrote a Marathi play called ‘Karma’ during his college days.

He belongs to a Brahmin Gujarati family from Adpodara village near Himmatnagar in North Gujarat.

His father, Navneet Joshi, was a Sanskrit scholar, kirtankar and astrologer. He has two sisters. His younger brother, Rajesh Joshi, was an actor who died in a road accident in 1998.

livelihood
Manoj started his career as a cashier at Siddharth Hotel in Mumbai. However, he left the job within a few months because he was not good at handling finances. After this he worked for some magazines like ‘Janmabhoomi’, ‘Gentleman’ and ‘Economic and Political Weekly’. He used to draw caricatures for magazines and earn Rs 50 to 100 monthly. Later, he joined a firm called EPW Communist Trust where he received a monthly salary of Rs 35000 to Rs 40000.

Manoj started his acting career as a theater artist. He has performed in theater plays in different languages like Hindi, Gujarati and Hindi.

In 1995, he acted in the Marathi theater play ‘Sarvasvi Tuzich’.
Gujarati
In 1986, he appeared in the Gujarati drama ‘Tak Dhina Dhin’. Some of his other Gujarati theater plays are Ghasiram, Kotwal Doctor Tame Pan, Main Male Tya Melo and Gandhi Viruddh Gandhi.
Hindi
In 1996, he acted in the Hindi theater play ‘Chanakya’. He gained a lot of popularity with this play. He has been performing drama in various states of India for more than 25 years.
He has appeared in some other Hindi dramas like ‘Gol Maal Pyar Ka’, ‘Rangeela Re’ and ‘Alibaba Aur Chalis Ke Chor’.
