Manilal Patidar was a 2014 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre. He served in several districts of UP before being dismissed in June 2023 in connection with the death of a businessman.

Manilal Patidar (also spelled Mani Lal Patidar) was born on Saturday, 25 November 1989 (age 33 years; as of 2022) in Saroda village in Sagwara tehsil of Dungarpur district in Rajasthan, India. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He completed his schooling from Jawahar Navodaya Public School. Later he studied Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Later he started preparing for UPSC (Civil Services) examination.

livelihood
He secured 188th rank in the UPSC examination in 2013 and was allotted Uttar Pradesh cadre as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer on 22 December 2014. After completing his training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, he joined the Lucknow Police office. In April 2018, he was promoted to the post of Additional Superintendent of Police (Additional SP) of Gonda district from the post of Assistant SP of Muzaffarnagar district. Later he became the SP of Aligarh district and in November 2019, he became the SP of Mahoba district. He was later suspended on charges of corruption and abetment of suicide. On 24 June 2023, he was dismissed from the Indian Police Services, following which his name was removed from Uttar Pradesh Police records.
Controversy
Corruption and incitement to suicide
When he was posted as SP in Mahoba, he was accused of extortion from various businessmen, truck drivers and shop owners of Mahoba. On September 7, 2020, local stone crusher businessman Indrakant Tripathi had posted a video, in which he said that Manilal was pressurizing him to pay extortion money of Rs 6 lakh on a monthly basis. He also expressed suspicion that he would be murdered after such revelations. On 8 September 2020, Indrakant Tripathi was found unconscious in a car with a gunshot wound to his neck. Tripathi died during treatment on 13 September 2020, after which an FIR was registered against Manilal and four other policemen under sections 302 and 306 of the IPC. Manilal was suspended on 9 September 2020 and later absconded. Later UP Police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head. After evading arrest for more than 2 years, Manilal surrendered before the court on 15 October 2022. He was lodged in Lucknow jail before his dismissal on 24 June 2023.
Facts/General Knowledge
- The allegation was that the Home Ministry of the Government of India sent his dismissal on 29 December 2022; However, Uttar Pradesh Police did not take necessary action and kept delaying it. UP Police also did not file the charge sheet within the stipulated time, due to which Manilal was released on bail in January 2023.
- Several police officers have estimated that Manilal Patidar has purchased properties worth Rs 50-60 crore in various parts of India with the extortion money.
