Mandisa’s Father Addresses Rumors That ‘American Idol’ Alum Harmed Herself as Questions Surround Cause of Death

American Idol alum and Grammy Award winner Mandisa was pronounced dead on April 18. She was 47 years old. After the discovery, rumors began to spread that the gospel singer would harm herself.

But his father, John Hundley, was quick to dispel those rumors.

“She wasn’t hurt,” he said during her funeral. “As she said, Mandisa loved the Lord, and the Lord loved Mandisa.”

Mandisa’s father opens up about her death

Mandisa was found dead in her home in Franklin, Tennessee, on April 18. After rumors began to circulate about her alleged self-harm tactics, many began to speculate whether her death was a suicide. But her father believes that her sudden death is just the result of an unfortunate incident.

“This is what I think happened,” he added.

“Mandisa fell in her bedroom. They found her on the ground. If you look from behind her bed, she was lying on the left side. “It’s clear that she was there, there were a couple of big rugs there and some clothes.”

Her father also acknowledged that the singer recently contracted COVID-19, but was doing her best to defend herself.

“She was trying to move on,” he added. “We talked a lot on Easter morning, but I thought she was going to this conference, so I hadn’t called her recently but I talked to her a lot. May she rest in peace now.”
