Mahsa Amini (2000–2022) was an Iranian woman known for being killed by police forces in Iran for violating Iran’s strict dress code. He died on 16 September 2022 in Tehran after being in a coma for three days.

Police arrested Mahsa
On 13 September 2022, Mahsa was arrested by the Guidance Patrol while she was traveling to Tehran with her family. Police claimed that she violated public enforcement of hijab rules and did not wear the hijab in accordance with government standards.
Police atrocities on Mahsa
After being arrested by the police, he was taken into police custody when his brother heard the police officers beating Mahsa. Later, he was taken to Kasara Hospital and admitted in coma. Doctors at the hospital said she was brain dead due to brain injury, including bleeding from the ear and a cut under the eye. He died on 16 September 2022 after being in a coma for three days.
Protest after Mahsa’s death
Protests took place in various cities of Iran following his death on 16 September 2022. People raised slogans like “Women, Life, Freedom” and “Death to the dictator”. Protests also took place outside Tehran’s Kasra hospital, where he was admitted, and demonstrators sprayed pepper on him to stop him. Several people were killed by police during protests against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strict dress code. In some cities, women were seen burning their hijab in the crowd. People were protesting against his death even on social media. Some Iranian women cut their hair and posted videos on social media in support of the protests. Due to increasing protests, the Iranian government has closed access to many apps including Instagram and WhatsApp.
Police has denied beating Mahsa
Protesters demanded justice for Mahsa and changes to strict hijab laws. Police officials shared a video on social media in which Mahsa was seen falling unconscious on the ground. He claimed that the police did not harm him, but he suffered a heart attack. He talked about this and said,
Resuscitation was performed on the patient, the heartbeat returned and the patient was admitted to the intensive care unit. Unfortunately, after 48 hours on Friday, the patient again suffered cardiac arrest leading to brain death. Despite the efforts of the medical team, they failed to revive him and the patient died.
