Curtain lifted from marriage controversies
Their wedding in 2006 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai brought them into the public eye. Despite the widely watched event, his father Dawood Ibrahim reportedly did not attend. Media reports revealed that around 500 guests were in attendance, but specific details about them were not disclosed. There were tight security arrangements at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and security personnel instructed journalists and photographers to maintain distance from the main venue during the wedding. According to media reports, it is said that Dawood Ibrahim had used Pakistani passport to go to Saudi Arabia for Mahrukh’s wedding. His plan was to attend the reception in Dubai using the fake identity Ali Mian, which he allegedly uses to travel between Saudi Arabia and Dubai. Dawood planned to stay at a farm near Dubai for the reception. However, the arrest of Vicky Malhotra, a sharpshooter associated with the rival Chhota Rajan gang in Delhi, along with a retired intelligence officer raised concerns about a possible joint intelligence-mafia operation, putting Dawood on alert. By what means he reached the wedding venue in Mecca remains uncertain. There were reports of a group of women wearing burqas at Mecca Masjid, but their identities could not be confirmed. Later there was speculation that one of them could be Dawood. After the marriage, some media sources contacted Javed Miandad in Pakistan. During the conversation, a media representative asked him if Dawood Ibrahim had attended the ‘nikah’, to which Miandad replied, “Everyone was present.”
