Macklemore is weighing in on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In case you didn’t know, the militant group Hamas killed more than 1,400 Israelis on October 7. After that brutal attack, Israel declared war on Hamas.
More than 2,800 Palestinian civilians have been tragically killed by Israeli airstrikes and there is an ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The “Thrift Shop” rapper shared his thoughts on the conflict in an Instagram post on Friday (October 20).

“I have been afraid,” Macklemore wrote. “I have literally felt a lump in my throat and I cannot remain silent any longer. I condemn the murder of any human being. The bombings, kidnappings and murders of the Israeli people carried out by Hamas were horrific in every way imaginable. “My heart aches deeply for the Israelis who lost their loved ones to such an abomination.”
He continued: “As a father, I can’t imagine if one of my children was at that festival or if he was still missing after being kidnapped. It is absolutely unfathomable. But killing innocent human beings in retaliation as collective punishment is not the answer. “That is why I support people around the world who are calling for a ceasefire.”
The musician called Israel’s recent attacks an “unfolding genocide” and a “human catastrophe.”
“There is a fear of being immediately labeled an anti-Semitic when you say something against the Israeli government,” he wrote. “This is false. “I can wholeheartedly love my Jewish brothers and sisters and at the same time condemn the Israeli government for its mass murders and apartheid.”
Macklemore noted that many have spoken loudly about praying for Israel and questioned why people don’t seem to value Palestinian lives to the same degree.
“I am with all humans,” he concluded. “I am in favor of peace. I defend love. I defend freedom. And for that reason, I defend a free Palestine and the end of the looming genocide against its people.”
Last year, Macklemore opened up about his painful relapse during the Covid-19 pandemic.
