Luis Rubiales officially resigns.

The 46-year-old football manager and former professional player has resigned as president of the Spanish Football Federation following criticism for kissing Spanish striker Jenni Hermoso after the Women’s World Cup final, the BBC reports.

The 33-year-old player spoke about the kiss, which occurred during the presentation ceremony after Spain’s victory over England in Sydney, stating that it was not consented to in a judicial complaint.

He issued a statement saying he had submitted his resignation to the federation’s acting president, Pedro Rocha, in addition to resigning from his position as vice-president of UEFA’s executive committee.

Spanish prosecutors have accused Luis Rubiales of sexual assault and coercion for kissing the player on the lips without her consent, bringing a case against him to Spain’s National Court in Madrid.

Under a sexual consent law passed last year, he could face a fine or a prison sentence of one to four years if convicted of sexual assault.
