In a letter to postal workers dated August 13, 2020, DeJoy verified complaints about mail delivery delays. He called the delays “unintended consequences” of reforms that will eventually improve service.
Former President Donald Trump confessed on television that he was withholding postal funds to prevent mail-in voting. Following complaints from Congress, the USPS inspector general launched an investigation into DeJoy’s policy changes and compliance with federal ethical standards.
Other donations and board work
In 2014, DeJoy gave Duke University $747,000 to fund Blue Devil Tower and the DeJoy Family Club near the football stadium. Her son was accepted into the school that year and joined the tennis team as a chaperone.
His daughter also studied music at Duke. Elon University’s board of trustees includes DeJoy.
