What does STRONG passport mean?
Passports carry power. Usually, a visa must be arranged to travel outside of one’s own country. However, a strong passport makes traveling easy – often without a visa.
According to this index, Singapore has excellently topped the list of the most powerful passports in the world. Before that, Japan has topped the list for 5 consecutive times.

In around 192 countries around the world, Singaporeans can make the most of their visa-on-arrival or visa-free opportunities. This huge number of countries accounts for 85% of the entire world. This means Singaporeans can travel to around 85 percent of the world with just their passport without the hassle of getting a visa before traveling. No wonder the Singapore passport is the hardest in the world.
The Hanley Passport Index uses data from the International Air Transport Association to list the most powerful passports in the world. According to this index, Germany, Italy and Spain come in second place, while the third place is shared by seven countries, including Japan. Check out the full list below:
