The new moon is the first phase of the lunar cycle. This happens when the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth and its face towards the Earth receives no light from the Sun. The New Moon is often associated with new beginnings, introspection, and potential.
A new moon is the opposite of a full moon. This means that this phase of the moon is not visible from Earth.
According to National Geographic, new moons occur every 29.5 days. This means that there are usually 12 chicks in a year. However, because the lunar cycle does not completely conform to the Gregorian calendar, some months may have two new moons.
When this happens, at least one of those New Moons is a Black Moon. National Geographic states: “Typically, a new moon occurs only once a month, but because there is a slight difference between the lunar changes—the average cycle is 29.5 days—and the Gregorian calendar, some months may have two new moon: one at the beginning and one at the end. “
The new moon rises and sets at the same time as the sun. The new moon is not visible in the night sky and is often referred to as the “dark moon”.
The new months are named differently according to the season. According to the Old Farmer’s Yearbook, “Historically, the name of a full or new moon was used to keep track of the seasons. Today, we consider the Moon’s name to be the Moon’s “nickname.”
“The moon names we use in the Old Farmers’ Almanac come from Native American, Colonial American or other traditional North American sources that have been passed down for generations,” it added.
