Similarly, her paternal grandfather, the German-born Ekkehard von Kuenssberg, was a co-founder and president of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
She grew up in Glasgow, Scotland and attended Laurel Bank School for Girls before enrolling in the University of Edinburgh to study history. Kuenssberg is of white descent and British nationality. She was, however, born in Italy and had Italian citizenship. Her father’s family had Jewish ancestors and fled Germany during the Holocaust. Kuenssberg has been open about her family and background, characterizing her parents as politically active and social justice activists. She also spoke about the difficulties of being a working mother in the media sector, as well as the importance of empowering women in the workplace.
