Landon Barker opens up about alcohol abuse and mental health struggles

Landon Barker is candid about his mental health issues and derealization.

The 20-year-old musician has dealt with derealization, a disorder that makes someone feel disconnected from their thoughts and body, and it all started with alcohol.

He has also experienced severe OCD, high ADHD, and increased anxiety when dissociating.

“It originally started with a bad alcohol habit. “I was abusing it and just abusing that substance, and one day it hit me and I had been going through it for months,” he said. People. “It was horrible, and I went through intense OCD, intense ADHD, and intense anxiety, all while dissociating and feeling like I was in a video game. I’ve been watching my whole life through a movie screen. It was honestly horrible. “I always love raising awareness about suicide and talking about it.”

“I feel like if you hold it in, it’s a lot harder, and I feel like all the messages I got when I posted about this honestly made me feel better,” Landon added. “Seeking support and more knowledge from the public was honestly comforting to me and letting people really know who I am, even on my phone through a social media platform, was really helpful to me.”

The “Friends With Your EX” singer notes that he still deals with OCD, ADHD and anxiety, and dissociation is what triggered the alcohol abuse.

“I’ve always struggled with OCD, ADHD and anxiety, but yeah, dissociation and dissociation hit me like a truck last year and it was just the most horrible experience,” she said. “It started like this: I would drink and then the next day I would disassociate a lot, and that’s how my habit of drinking a lot started. It was like, oh, I’d feel better the moment I had a drink, and yeah, it all started and it all moved really fast.”

A concussion a year ago caused him to stop drinking and now, he says, “I think it’s 100 percent important for me to not make it a habit again.”

“I always tell myself, ‘Now I’ll only drink on special occasions.’ “I just get away from everything.”

However, through it all, Landon shares that he has learned a lot about how to help him with his OCD, ADHD, and dissociation.

“I’ve learned all these tips and tricks and I’ve done a lot of research, so honestly, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about all the things that I suffer from,” she said. “Honestly, I was too scared to start taking medication. I just know how I can have an addictive personality and I feel like I would be too scared to put myself in a dependency situation where I have to use something every day. “I was a little nervous to even try it, but I was doing a lot of therapy and exercising, and it was helpful.”
