Lalduhoma is an Indian politician and former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Mizoram. Lalduhoma is the founder and president of the Zoram Nationalist Party, a regional political party in Mizoram.

Lalduhoma was born on Tuesday, 22 February 1949 (age 74 years; as in 2023) in Tualpui, Mizoram. His zodiac sign is Pisces. He received his primary education from Khawajawal Elementary School and completed his matriculation from Government GM Higher Secondary School, Champhai. In 1976, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Meghalaya. He obtained his bachelor’s degree while working in the office of Chief Minister C. Chunga.

In 1972, Lalduhoma was appointed as Principal Assistant by C. Chunga, the first Chief Minister of Mizoram. He worked as Principal Assistant in the Chief Minister’s Office in Mizoram from 1972 to 1977. After graduation, he qualified for the Indian Civil Services Examination and joined the Indian Police Service in 1977, where he served as a squad leader in Goa. In 1982, he was transferred to New Delhi to serve as security in-charge of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He was later promoted to the post of Deputy Commissioner of Police. In 1982, he became the secretary of the organizing committee headed by Rajiv Gandhi for the 1982 Asian Games. He resigned from the security service of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984.

Politics

On 31 May 1984, Lalduhoma was elected as the President of Mizoram Congress. In the same year, he was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Mizoram State Planning Board. In December 1984, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Mizoram constituency and in 1986 he had to leave the post of President of Mizoram Congress. In 1986, he formed the Mizo National Union, which later merged with the Mizoram People’s Conference. In 1985, he joined the Mizo National Front (MNF) as an advisor. In 1997, he founded the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), a regional political party in Mizoram. In 2003, he was elected to the Mizoram Assembly. In the 2018 election, he joined as the leader of Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which became a registered political party in 2019. In the 2018 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, he was first selected as the Chief Ministerial candidate. He was elected as the Opposition Leader of Legislative Assembly Members in Mizoram Legislative Assembly. In the 2003 election, he was elected to the Mizoram Legislative Assembly from Ratua assembly constituency as a candidate of the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP). In 1997, the Mizo National Front (MNF) party founded by Lalduhoma was renamed the Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP). On 17 April 2021, Lalduhoma was re-elected in the by-election from both Aizawl West I and Serchhip constituencies, defeating his rival, Vanlalzavma of the MNF party, by 3,310 votes.

On 27 November 2020, Lok Sabha Speaker Lalrinliana Sello disqualified him under India’s anti-defection law. In September 2020, 12 Mizo National Front (MNF) MLAs appealed to Mizoram Legislative Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Selo of Lalduhoma to remove him from his post as he violated the anti-defection law by acting as ZPM party leader Was. Facts/General Knowledge

  • Lalduhoma was scheduled to meet Indira Gandhi on the afternoon of 31 October 1984, the day she was assassinated.
  • Indira Gandhi’s ministry tasked Lalduhoma to negotiate with the MNF leader, Laldenga, to resolve the rebellion. He met Laldenga in London and convinced him to negotiate peace with the Indian government.
