- When Kuldeep joined his childhood coach Kapil Pandey’s cricket academy in Kanpur, he wanted to become a fast bowler like Zaheer Khan and Wasim Akram; However, his coach suggested him to become a chinaman, a rare variety of spin bowling. Kapil Pandey talked about this in an interview and said,
I asked him to switch to Chinaman, which is a rare variety of bowling. The change was not easy but he soon realized that spin bowling was the way forward for him.
