In 2015, Kiran started practicing shot put at Kailash Prakash Sports Stadium in Meerut. In her first year of practice, she cleared 12.49 meters in the 3 kg put, a heavy spherical ball, and finished sixth in the shot put event at the U18 Nationals in Ranchi. In 2016, he won a bronze medal in the U18 category at the Junior Nationals in Coimbatore with a throw of 14.62 metres. In 2017, he increased the weight of his putt from 3 kg to 4 kg. On 6 May 2017, he crossed the 15 meter mark for the first time in Obra and won the championship. In November 2017, Kiran won the gold medal at the Junior Athletics Championships in Vijayawada in the under-20 category with a throw of 14.54 metres. In December 2017, he won gold again in Mangalagiri with a throw of 14.37 metres.
On 20 April 2018, he crossed the 15 m mark for the first time with a throw of 15.23 m and won the gold medal at the Indian U20 Championships in Coimbatore. In May 2018, he made his international debut at the South Asian U20 Championship held in Colombo and continued his winning streak by winning 5 consecutive championships. In June 2018, she finished fifth at the Asian Junior Championships held in Gifu, Japan. In May 2019, he crossed the 16 meter mark for the first time with a throw of 16.87 meters at the Regional Championships in Allahabad, UP. In an interview, his coach mentioned that,
We initially trained him focusing more on his lower body. Once she crossed the 16 meter mark, it gave her more confidence to master the variations. She would watch videos of shot put players like two-time Olympic medalist Joe Kovacs to see their movements and practice such maneuvers.
In January 2020, he won the Indian University Championships in Moodbidri with a throw of 15.69 metres. On 28 February 2020, he won the gold medal with a throw of 15.10 meters at the Khelo India University Games held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. On 15 March 2021, he won the Federation Cup in Patiala with a throw of 16.45 metres. On 30 September 2022, he created a national record with a throw of 17.14 meters and won a gold medal at the Indian National Games in Gujarat. In June 2023, he won the gold medal at the Indian Championships with a throw of 17.17 meters at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. On 29 September 2023, she created history by becoming the first Indian woman in 72 years to win an Asian Games shot put medal at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China at the age of 24; This was his Asian Games debut. She won the bronze medal with a throw of 17.38 metres, finishing behind Olympic champions Gong Lijiao of China (19.58 metres) and Song Jiayuan (18.92 metres).

- In 2015, Kiran’s father was posted as home guard at Kailash Prakash Sports Stadium. His daughter also often accompanied him to the stadium, due to which Kiran developed interest in javelin throw. Later, Kiran practiced javelin throwing for some time, but she usually hurt herself because she was fat. Her coach decided to have her practice the shot put, which she eventually took up professionally.
