Khan Mubarak (1978–2023) was an Indian gangster and a close associate of underworld king Chhota Rajan. His sphere of influence extended to many areas of Uttar Pradesh including Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Ambedkar Nagar and Faizabad. Khan died of dehydration while undergoing treatment at Hardoi District Hospital in 2023; He died due to complications arising from lung infection and pneumonia.

Khan Mubarak entered the world of crime during his tenure at Allahabad University in Uttar Pradesh. His first major act was during a cricket match, where he shot the umpire after he was declared out. His elder brother Zafar Supari played an important role in taking Mubarak on this path. At the age of 15, Zafar entered the world of crime and later formed a relationship with notorious underworld kingpin Chhota Rajan. Encouraged by his brother, Mubarak began working under the auspices of Rajan. Chhota Rajan’s main rival was Munna Bajrangi, an Indian politician and a renowned betel nut killer and a gang leader from eastern Uttar Pradesh. In 2006, under Rajan’s instruction, Mubarak planned a robbery at a post office in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. His plot was foiled by an alert security guard, who fired in retaliation. Despite this, Mubarak managed to retaliate and escape. Tension increased between Mubarak and Bajrangi when Mubarak demanded extortion money. Rs 25 lakh from a doctor close to Bajrangi. Due to this, a violent gang war started between the two. Subsequently, the police increased their investigation, forcing Mubarak to relocate to Mumbai, where he found shelter with his brother Zafar Supari.
2006 black horse shootout
Khan Mubarak was later named in the sensational 2006 Kala Ghoda shootout in Mumbai. The incident revolves around drug dealers Amjad Khan and Himanshu Chaudhary, who were linked to underworld major Chhota Rajan. Initially, he borrowed Rs. Chhota took Rs 50 lakh from Rajan’s close associate Ahjaz Pathan, but later returned the money and joined forces with Rajan’s rival Dawood Ibrahim. Subsequently, Amjad Khan and Himanshu Chaudhary were arrested by the police in connection with a case. Seeking revenge, Pathan appeals to Chhota Rajan to eliminate them. Rajan, in turn, entrusted the task to his close associates Zafar Supari and Rajesh Yadav, who joined forces with Khan Mubarak. On 16 October 2006, Khan Mubarak and other shooters attacked a van carrying Amjad Khan and Himanshu Choudhary to a court hearing in the Kala Ghoda area. According to sources, people like Bacha Pasi, Osama Khan, Nikal Kumar, Neeraj Valmiki, Zafar Supari and Khan Mubarak were involved in this incident known as ‘Kala Ghoda Shootout’.
Arrests and other matters
The first FIR against Khan Mubarak was registered at Mumbai’s Andheri police station for murder. He was first arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) in 2007 after his involvement in a cash van robbery in Allahabad (now known as Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on 15 May 2007 and resulted in the death of two guards and two attackers, Saurav Sinha and Vinayranjan Gupta. During investigation in connection with the cash van robbery, Khan confessed to his involvement in the Kala Ghoda shooting case. In 2011, Chhota Rajan’s associate Osama Khan, who had a bounty of Rs 20 lakh on his head. 5 lakhs, were brutally eliminated. According to sources, Osama had switched his allegiance to Dawood Ibrahim’s gang, leading Rajan to order Zafar Supari to plan Osama’s downfall. However, Supari handed over this task to Khan Mubarak, who was lodged in Naini Central Jail in Uttar Pradesh. From behind bars, Khan Mubarak plotted Osama’s death and assigned the deadly act to Rajesh Yadav. After spending five years in Naini jail, Khan was released in 2012. Mubarak wasted no time in returning to his illegal activities. He set up an extortion and ransom racket in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. In the same year, he murdered Ainuddin, a brick merchant who had defied his demands. In 2014, Mubarak took over a piece of land by killing its owner, a property dealer named Mohan Yadav. In 2016, he got his own shooter Sheru Alam murdered. Despite numerous run-ins with the law, Mubarak always seemed to be slipping away. It is said that in 2016, Mubarak had conspired to murder Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Jugram Mehndi, although Mehndi survived the attempt. However, this incident led to the arrest of Khan Mubarak from Lucknow in 2017 by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh. Nevertheless, according to sources, Mubarak managed to execute a successful plan to assassinate Jugram from his prison cell the following year. That is, 2018. On June 2, 2022, he was brought from Maharajganj Central Jail to Hardoi Jail. Mubarak was included in the list of 31 mafias and gangsters of Uttar Pradesh. Their impact was widespread, covering various areas including Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh with 31 cases and Allahabad (now Prayagraj) with 6 cases; Three cases were pending against him in Mumbai also.
Death
Khan Mubarak died on 13 June 2023 at Hardoi District Hospital. According to officials, he was suffering from lung infection and pneumonia when he was lodged in Hardoi jail in Uttar Pradesh. Despite receiving initial treatment at the prison hospital, his condition required transfer to a district hospital for more comprehensive care.

- Khan Mubarak was tech-savvy and an English lover. He had a deep love for firearms. According to officials, Khan had 15 types of pistols and could fire with both hands at a time.
- Reportedly, he was one of the first criminals to use virtual numbers to make extortion calls targeting businessmen and doctors, mainly sourced from West Asia.
- In 2017, Khan’s video went viral in which he could be seen shooting an empty bottle at the head of a businessman named Baju Khan, who was vocal in opposing Khan’s criminal activities and the extortion he had faced from fellow businessmen. Was requested not to do it.
- In 2018, a video of Khan Mubarak from Faizabad jail captured national attention. In the footage, Mubarak claimed that the police force was singling him out and confronting him. He further said that any loss to them would have serious consequences for the country’s military and law enforcement officials.
- Apart from Khan’s involvement in various crimes, his family members were also caught indulging in criminal activities. In 2022, his sister and niece were caught by Tanda Kotwali police. Authorities revealed that Khan’s niece and sister were responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Khan’s gang. He facilitated transactions and assisted Khan’s associates through digital payment systems.
- On July 13, 2022, the property of Khan’s brother-in-law was destroyed by the Uttar Pradesh government.
