Just over two months after Mayim Bialik announced that she was no longer the host of Danger, Ken Jennings admits he understands why his game show co-host was fired.
During a recent interview with USA TodayJennings spoke about Bialik’s firing and why it wasn’t necessary Danger! have two hosts.
“I saw that and I think he was right,” Ken Jennings explained, referring to executive producer Michael Davies’ comments at the Television Critics Association press tour about being forced to have two hosts.
“He talked about how Danger! It is a symbol of consistency and reliability for many of our viewers. It’s part of the ritual of their day and they want to tune in and know what they’re going to see and not ask us, ‘Oh, which host am I watching tonight?’ And I understand it.”
Jennings clarified that he was not “blowing smoke” when it came to that discussion and was happy to host with Mayim Bialik. “I really enjoyed Mayim’s stay. You could tell that she was a born performer, very confident on stage in a way that I didn’t have at the beginning.”
“I learned a lot from watching her and really enjoyed her presentation. But I get it: there’s a reason why TV shows don’t usually have two hosts.”
Ken Jennings felt that some of the criticism towards Mayim Bialik was “clearly misogynistic”
Meanwhile, Ken Jennings spoke out about the continued criticism Mayim Bialik received while co-hosting. Danger!
Jennings further stated that he understood the various reasoning behind hiring Bialik as a co-host. “I love being able to host Danger! and it is my dream job,” he continued. “But we have seen middle-aged heterosexual white men present Danger! for decades.”
“I feel like some of the criticism that Mayim received was clearly misogynistic,” Jennings explained. “These were people who were not there to see a female host.” Danger! and whether or not they understood that about their soul, they were not prepared to accept a woman in that position of authority.”
Jennings previously spoke about Bialik’s abrupt departure from Danger! in December 2023. “It took me by surprise,” Jennings explained. “Because I loved working with my Mayim and I’m going to miss her. “I can’t speak to her decision-making process or her opinions on the matter.”
Ken Jennings also talked about being the full-time host of Danger! “For my part, I’m just a fan of Danger!”he added. “I am always delighted to be the host when they call me. “I feel very lucky to have been considered for this job without being a broadcaster.”
