Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kelvin talked about how he didn’t care at all about his scenes showcasing Chevalier’s violin skills (he’s been trained in that for two decades), it was the intimate scenes where he hesitated about things.
“Any kind of intimacy, being naked in a bed, always gave me chills: ‘What is this going to be like and how awkward is it going to be?’” he recalled. “I’m used to making indies and everything is really hard and raw. You barely have makeup and you’re like a [normal] person.”
However, this particular film, set in the 18th century, is “so pretty, everyone is dressed up. I remember saying, ‘Hey, can I just lie in bed normally?’ AND [director Stephen Williams] It was like, ‘You just need to find the light.’ And so I’m lying on this pillow, acting like I’m naïve right now with Samara. [Weaving] trying to be the prettiest era icon I could be in this sex scene.”
Gentlemanwhich also stars Lucy Boynton, Samara Weaving, Minnie Driver and Ronke Adekoluejo, is in theaters now.
