After 7 seasons as a judge in american idol, Katy Perry is about to quit. However, instead of regretting the move, fans fully support the decision.
For Katy Perry, the move comes after a decision to focus more on herself. “This fall, in September, I’m doing a big music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio… so I think this will probably be my last season for ‘Idol,'” Perry said on Jimmy Kimmel live! Monday.
“I mean, I love it. Idol a lot,” he continued. “It has connected me to the heart of America, but I need to feel the pulse of my own heartbeat.”
Perry joined the judging panel at american idol in 2018 ahead of season 16 of the series. The “Dark Horse” singer admitted that her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, still didn’t know about her upcoming departure.
Bryan and Richie did know, however, that she has “some things planned for this year,” Perry said. “So it’s going to be a very, very exciting year… for all the pop star girls out there!”
“They realized I had been in the studio for a while, so they assumed something was coming,” he continued. “I love the show so much, but I want to go see the world and maybe bring new music.”

Following the shocking announcement, Katy Perry fans took to social media to celebrate the singer’s decision.

“OMG this is a sign that her next era is going to be a success,” said one Katy Perry fan. “SHE’S FINALLY FREE,” said another excitedly. “New album, new era, new world tour, no more seasons of American Idol, the Katycats can’t stop winning,” added a third.
