Katharine McPhee and David Foster are parents to two-year-old son Rennie, and while they don’t argue about their different parenting styles, they agree that they don’t agree on certain things.
When it comes to disciplining their child, they have different methods and they realize that it is because they grew up in different times.
“I want to start disciplining [Rennie] And Kat doesn’t really like that,” David said. People.

“No, that’s not true,” Katharine responded. “I just want to discipline myself in my own way. There’s an older way of disciplining that involves timeouts and things like that. My opinion is that you can have more conscious parenting instead of simply assuming that a two or three year old can have time alone to reflect on what she has done wrong.”
“I think the newest way to parent is to understand that, with a child, there are a lot of things that they can understand intellectually. Saying ‘That was really bad, that was really, really bad’ becomes embarrassing. “I think discipline is something that happens over time,” Katharine added.
She said: “David is more results-based. He says, ‘You can’t just walk by and crush people.’ Of course not. But he’s two and a half years old and he’s learning those things. It’s just a different approach. I think his era of him as a father is different than mine.”
“They learn to have personal space and all that stuff over time,” Katharine said. “They have to have experiences in which they have negative reactions from people not only from their parents, from teachers and fellow students. They get to experience it with life. Then we’ll just wait. Talk to us when he is three years old.
Katharine confirmed: “We don’t have any discussion about it.”
