Internet sleuths and amateur comedians are feeling a little embarrassed by their jokes aimed at Kate Middleton following her cancer revelation.
After considerable speculation about her health and location, Middleton finally addressed the public and released a video on X (formerly Twitter) on March 22. In the video, she revealed her cancer diagnosis and provided updates on her well-being.
Middleton revealed that post-operative tests performed in January detected the presence of cancer. “Therefore, my medical team recommended that I undergo preventive chemotherapy treatment and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she explained.
“This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing our best to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
Kate Middleton asked for privacy for herself and her family as she continued her battle with cancer. Before yesterday’s video, Middleton had not made an official appearance since Christmas.
Internet pranksters respond to memes after Kate Middleton’s cancer revelation
Of course, this led to many pranksters on social media feeling like they had egg on their face. For months, wild theories and memes have circulated about what exactly the princess had been doing during her self-isolation.
Wry internet users speculated about Brazilian butt lift surgery to see Kate in the infamous Willy Wonka Experience in Glasgow and everything in between.
Now, many on social media are expressing regret for making jokes at the expense of the royals.
“All the Kate Middleton and royal family jokes I’ve been laughing at these past few weeks and to find out she’s been battling cancer… I’m going to hell,” said one user on X. accepted.
“Kate Middleton has cancer and we were all saying she got a BBL…” another user observed alongside images of a “real housewife” saying: “I owe you the biggest apology.”
Meanwhile, another X user joked about how everyone was quietly deleting their memes and theories about Middleton after the serious news.
Celebrities joined in speculation about Kate Middleton before her cancer was revealed
Even celebrities became involved in speculation about Kate Middleton’s whereabouts before her cancer diagnosis was revealed.
Blake Lively turned the situation into a promotion for her drink line. She shared a satirical image on social media where she appears photographed with the drinks, clearly photoshopped. This was a blow to the removal of a Welsh family portrait on March 14 after Middleton confessed to altering the image.
In the edited photo, the background looked fake. The drink can also appeared digitally placed in her hand, and one of Lively’s thumbs appeared unusually large. Also, a lemon in the photo floated over his head like a UFO.
Kim Kardashian also joked about teaming up with global online sleuths to solve Princess Kate Middleton’s mystery. “I’m going to get Kate,” the reality star and entrepreneur captioned a recent Instagram post. The image showed Kardashian ready next to a van.
While Lively appears to have deleted her post following Middleton’s latest video, Kim’s is still up.
