Kanye West sued for assault and battery after allegedly punching autograph seeker

Kanye West is facing an assault lawsuit over an alleged 2022 incident that left a man in lasting physical and mental anguish.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Los Angeles resident Justin Poplawski claims Kanye West hit him multiple times after he asked the rapper for an autograph.

Video of the alleged attack shows Poplawski lying on the ground, but does not include the actual confrontation. However, according to Poplawski, he was waiting outside a hotel to get Kanye West’s autograph in January 2022.

Poplawski, a well-respected self-proclaimed autograph dealer in the Los Angeles area, says he has obtained Kanye’s autograph in the past without incident. This time, however, Poplawski says the rapper exploded with anger and yelled, “I’m going to give you a damn example” before referencing his “damn divorce” from Kim Kardashian.

The lawsuit alleges that Kanye West then yelled, “Fuck you.” [out of] Here before I beat you. “I’m going to make a damn example of you.”

After the tirade, West allegedly punched Poplawski before asking, “So you want to get really attacked?”

Justin Poplawski says he demanded an apology from his attacker. However, instead of apologizing, Kanye West simply said, “Excuse me for what?”

This question, Poplawski said, was followed by a barrage of attacks from West, “severely injuring” the autograph seeker.

Poplawski claims one of West’s teammates tried to stop the attack. Kanye West told them to “go to the fucking house and bring my fucking kids.”

Autograph distributor sues Kanye West for damages

Justin Poplawski is now suing West for damages, claiming he is disfigured by the attack and has endured mental pain and suffering. The autograph dealer’s wife is also suing for loss of consortium, alleging that she lost the company of her husband as a result of the attack.

In a later interview with Jason Lee for “Hollywood Unlocked,” Kanye West spoke about the altercation.

“It was 3 in the morning in front of the warehouse,” West recalled. “And this guy just had a real attitude, like, ‘What are you going to do?’ And do you see that? “I’m just telling you, that blue COVID mask isn’t going to stop that knockout, you know what I’m saying.”

West explained that the “teasing, disrespect, [and] contempt for [his] privacy” infuriated him. He was also upset over a parenting disagreement with his ex, Kim Kardashian, at the time. This “added to [him] be in the mood where [he] It was like, ‘I’m not going to allow this.'”
