Kansas City Chiefs players approach children’s hospital after parade shooting

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl last weekend. As part of an old tradition, they organized a parade in the city. But what was supposed to be a day of celebration ended in grave tragedy.

In the final moments of the parade, another mass shooting occurred. It left one person dead and 21 others injured, including 11 children. After the tragic event, several Chiefs players offered help to the victims.

Lisa Augustine, senior director of media relations for Children’s Mercy Kansas City, said the organization has been “very supportive” in the wake of the tragedy.

“The Chiefs players have been very supportive, as has the Chiefs organization. They contacted us and we are handling it accordingly,” he said.

“We want to make sure we focus on our patients first, our children and their families and our staff, and then we’ll help them with that.”

I am heartbroken by the tragedy that took place today. My heart goes out to everyone who came to celebrate with us and has been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.

Chiefs player remembers parade shooting

Another mass shooting has left the country in ruins. A mass shooting at an event involving thousands of people was extremely chaotic. And the fact that most of the victims were children makes the situation that much more tragic. Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith recalled bringing a child who he pulled to safety.

“Right before I ran in, there was a little kid in front of me, so I grabbed him, picked him up and said, ‘You’re coming in here with me, buddy.’ “I don’t know how many people were in the closet, maybe more than 20,” Smith said.

“I just remember the security guards rushing us through the doors and saying, ‘Come on, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up.’ They said, ‘This is not a joke.’ It’s a life or death situation.’”
