Jyoti Maurya was born on Sunday, 9 September 1990 (age 32 years; as of 2022) in Chiraigaon village, Varanasi (popularly known as Banaras), Uttar Pradesh, India. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. After her marriage in 2010, she requested her husband Alok Maurya to help her in further studies. He complied with her request and enrolled her in a coaching center in Prayagraj (then-Allahabad). He studied under DN Pandey at Vajirao & Reddy Institute and Disha IAS Academy. After qualifying the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Combined State/Higher Subordinate Examination in 2015, he pursued a career as an administrative officer.

He secured 16th rank in the UPPSC Combined State/Upper Subordinate Examination in 2015 and after completing his training, he was allotted the post of Deputy Collector on 5 July 2016. His first posting was as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)/Deputy Collector. of Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh and served there till 16 October 2017. On 17 October 2017, she became the Deputy Collector of Sirathu and Chail tehsil of Kaushambi district and served there till 5 October 2021.

On 6 October 2021, he took over as Deputy Collector of Pratapgarh district and served there till 22 October 2021. From 23 October 2021 to 31 March 2023, he served as the Deputy Collector of Prayagraj district. According to one source, he held the role of General Manager (GM) of a sugar mill in Bareilly district, and according to another source, he was posted as GM of GM Sugar Mills Limited in Lucknow on 31 March 2023.

In June 2023, Jyoti’s husband Alok Maurya came out publicly and alleged that Jyoti was cheating on him with Manish Dubey, the Home Guard Commandant posted in Ghaziabad. He revealed in an interview that Dubey’s wife contacted him in 2020 and told him about their extramarital affair. He also said that Jyoti first met Manish on Facebook. When Alok asked Jyoti about this, she denied any kind of affair and asked to show any proof before making such allegations.

He said that Jyoti had once gone to Lucknow on the pretext of work and he had followed her. She said that she had seen her meeting Manish there and that Jyoti and Manish had spent the night together at Hotel Myriad, booked by Manish in Lucknow. Next morning when Alok confronts her and asks about Manish, Jyoti says that she loves Manish. He also alleged that Jyoti threatened to file a case against him and his family members under IPC 376 (related to rape) and other serious charges. Alok also released the WhatsApp chats between Jyoti and Manish in which they had sent many intimate messages to each other.

He also showed a diary and claimed that Jyoti had kept records of bribes taken while working as SDM. He also appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for help. He alleged that he complained to Prayagraj Police Commissioner and ASO, Dhumanganj in April 2023; However, no action was taken against Jyoti.

Alok also alleged that Jyoti conspired with Manish to murder him. Responding to Alok’s allegations, Jyoti said that she is innocent and will answer the allegations in the court. She also lodged an FIR of dowry harassment against Alok and his family. After the news of their affair went viral, DG, Home Guards BK Maurya has ordered an investigation into the matter. There were viral reports that Jyoti has been suspended from her post; However, this could not be confirmed. In July 2023, a widely circulated WhatsApp conversation surfaced in which Jyoti and Manish were discussing the murder of Alok Maurya.

After the video went viral, Bhim Army demonstrated against Jyoti Maurya and requested the police to take action against her.
