Jwala Gutta was born on Wednesday, 7 September 1983 (age 40 years; as in 2023) in Wardha, Maharashtra. After his birth his family shifted to Hyderabad, Telangana. Her zodiac sign is Virgo.
When Jwala was just 4 years old, her father introduced her to national badminton coach SM Arif. The coach asked her to learn gymnastics and swimming before starting badminton training. Later he took badminton training from Arif at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium.

Jwala Gutta was born to Telugu father Kranthi Gutta and Chinese mother Yelan Gutta. His father belonged to a family of freedom fighters and leftists from Peddapulivaru in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. His mother is the granddaughter of a Gandhian named Tseng. He has a younger sister, Insi Gutta.
Relationships and husband
During her badminton tournament, Jwala started dating badminton player Chetan Anand. Both of them got married on 17 July 2005. The couple got divorced on 29 June 2011 due to personal reasons.
Jwala was also rumored to be in a relationship with former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin.
Later, she started dating Tamil actor Vishnu Vishal.
She got engaged to Vishnu Vishal on 6 September 2020.

On 22 April 2021, Jwala Gutta married Vishnu Vishal in a private ceremony in Hyderabad.

Jwala started playing badminton at the age of 6. She won the Under-13 Girls Mini National Badminton Championship held in Thrissur, Kerala. At the age of 17, Gutta won the Junior National Badminton Championship. Subsequently, she won the women’s doubles Junior National Championship and Senior National Badminton Championship in partnership with Shruti Kurian. Their association lasted for several years, and they won the women’s doubles national title for 7 consecutive years (from 2002 to 2008). However, the two later broke their long-term partnership due to compatibility issues.
After this Jwala paired with Ashwini Ponnappa of Bengaluru. The pair won the women’s doubles gold medal at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games; History was created for India by winning the first gold medal in this event. After this incident Gutta became a household name.
He gave recognition to doubles badminton in India. In 2010, she partnered Diju for the mixed doubles and came out on top. 6; Became the first doubles pair of the country to be ranked in the top-10.
In 2016, Jwala paired with Ponnappa for the Rio Olympics, where they were eliminated from the group with two consecutive losses to their opponents from Japan and the Netherlands. He has won medals in almost all major international badminton tournaments except the Olympics.

- Gutta courted controversy on social media when she expressed her disappointment on Twitter over there being no mention of sports in then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s Union Budget 2017 presentation. He tweeted, “If asked what is there for sports in this budget, will it be a complaint or criticism???” His tweet did not go down well with sports fans who slammed him for his poor performance and expectations from the government. Unfortunately, he was not aware that the Sports Ministry had increased the amount by Rs. Taking the budget from Rs 351 crore. 1592 crore to Rs. 1943 crores.
- She has been in controversies several times due to repeated clashes with chief national coach P. Gopichand.
- In 2013, Jwala was banned for life by the IBL for trying to prevent players from his franchise Krrish Delhi Smashers from playing against Banga Beats in the IBL.
