TS Sivagananam was born on Monday, 16 September 1963 (age 59 years; as in 2022) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His zodiac sign is Virgo. The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the name of Sivagananam as the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court on 9 February 2023. Meanwhile, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court on 31 March 2023. Sivagnanam was sworn in as the 33rd Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on 11 May 2023 after the Center notified his appointment. Later, when the company approached the National Green Tribunal challenging the orders of the TNPCB and the state government, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court (MHC) intervened and ordered status quo. Following this, the Supreme Court refused to reopen the plant and directed Vedanta to approach the Madras High Court in the matter. In August 2021, Justices TS Sivagnanam and V Bhavani Subbaroyan, in their 815-page judgment, dismissed a batch of 10 petitions filed by Vedanta to challenge Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) orders to stop operations of the plant. done. ,

In 2018, Justice TS Sivaganan provided relief to former Finance Minister of India P. Chidambaram and his family members by quashing the Income Tax Department’s notice against Chidambaram and his family for assessment year 2010–11. Apparently, Chidambaram had filed writ petitions challenging the IT department’s demand notice, saying there were reasons to believe that income chargeable to tax had escaped assessment. In his petition, Chidambaram mentioned that he and his family grow coffee and pulp and dry the raw coffee to sell it, which comes under Section 10(1) of the Income Tax Act. He further argued that though there were many others in the same business whose income was exempted, the IT department had issued notices only to him and his family.
