The trans rights debate came after Jonathan and Dax discussed whether The New York Times leaned more left or right, which Jonathan argued was much more correct than people think due to the document’s gender-affirming content of care.

Dax then argued that the article “challenges” ideas that teenagers should be allowed to take hormones and blockers.

“Some people are very uncomfortable with the transition of teenagers,” she shared. “How do we know that the person is not going to change their mind? Then there is another counterargument. If they commit suicide, then that will be fucking permanent. …Even questioning it makes you an enemy. “I don’t think that’s the way to go.”

Jonathan, surprised by Dax’s stance, admitted that it was like “I’m talking to my dad.”

“There are so many things that are so much more important and we’re here saying, ‘Well, there are legitimate concerns.’ [about transgender athletes]”Jonathan said. “All I’m saying is that what we know about misinformation and misinformation is that when you have an outsized reaction to something, there’s a good chance that you’re going to be exposed to misinformation and disinformation. And a lot of the rhetoric around the anti-trans backlash contains a lot of misinformation and disinformation.”

Dax continued to fight against what Jonathan was saying, and the Queer Eye star shared more of his disappointment around the conversation when it comes to people thinking they’re allies, when they’re not.

“I’m a fucking non-binary trans person. When I talk to my dad or people who say similar things, it’s hard to stay calm,” they continued. “I’m not calling you transphobic. “You cannot be transphobic and still have thoughts that espouse trans misogyny and embrace transphobic ideologies or beliefs and not be transphobic.”

Dax apologized and said he had no intention of starting a debate about trans rights. That’s when Jonathan shed tears about it.

“I could just cry because I’m tired of having to fight for little kids because they just want to be included,” they shared. “I wish people were as passionate about young boys being able to be included or growing up as they were about the fictional equality of women in sports. I must tell you that I am very tired.”
