Jonathan Sheindlin was born in 1967 (age 56 years; as of 2023) in New York City, New York, United States of America. In 1993, Jonathan graduated from the New York Medical College. He finished his first residency programme in Mount Sinai Morningside Ophthalmology from 1994 – 1997 and his fellowship in Massachusetts Eye and Ear Vitreoretinal Surgery from 1997 – 1999. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in Manhattan. He completed his training at Harvard University Medical School. He is affiliated with the Montefiore Medical Center: Einstein Campus.

Dr Jonathan Sheindlin M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) is an ophthalmologist. He is a physician at The Bronx Eye Centre. He specialises in studying ageing eyes, diabetic retinal detachments, and ways to reduce damage from retinal vascular diseases. Jonathan has a sub-speciality in diseases and surgery of the Retina and Vitreous. Dr Sheindlin has conducted extensive research while focusing on studying “posterior segment changes in the ageing eye, complex diabetic retinal detachments, and long-term approaches to reduce the harmful impacts of retinal vascular diseases.” He is also a member of various medical organizations, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Bronx County Medical Society, and the New York State Ophthalmologic Society. Controversies
Kiren Ahmed v. New York City Health
The defendants, in this case, were New York City Health Hospitals Corporation, Coney Island Hospital, Shandanu Rastogi, Soofia Rubbani, Jonathan Sheindlin, and Mark Harooni. The plaintiffs sued them for medical malpractice, claiming that they didn’t provide proper care for an infant’s retinal disorder, leading to retinopathy of prematurity and detached retinas. The defendants asked the court for summary judgment, meaning they wanted the case dismissed. To do this, they needed to show they didn’t depart from accepted medical practices or that the plaintiff wasn’t harmed by any mistakes. They provided expert evidence supporting their side. The plaintiffs needed to show there was a genuine issue of fact to continue the case. But their response only included a vague and unsupported expert affidavit, which didn’t prove anything substantial. As a result, the court granted the defendant’s motions for summary judgment, dismissing the case against them. The plaintiffs’ appeal was unsuccessful, and the decision stood.
