Lance Reddick’s family is speaking out to dispute the cause of death that has been reported in the media.
The beloved john wick and The wire the actor passed away suddenly last month at the age of 60, just days before the premiere of his film John Wick: Chapter 4.
A copy of Lance’s death certificate was made public on Thursday (April 6) and revealed his presumed cause of death. Now, his family denies that it is accurate.

The death certificate noted that Lance died of ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. The American Heart Association notes that “Ischemia is a condition in which blood flow (and therefore oxygen) is restricted or reduced in a part of the body. Cardiac ischemia is the decreased flow of blood and oxygen to the heart muscle. The disease is caused by “narrowed arteries of the heart.” The association notes that “atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease involves the buildup of plaque on the walls of the arteries.”
An attorney for the Reddick family is responding to the report.
“I represented Lance Reddick for many years and continue to represent his wife Stephanie. The coroner’s statement on the death certificate is not the result of an autopsy. No autopsy was performed on Lance. To the best of my knowledge, no medical examination of Lance during his lifetime indicated such conditions,” attorney James Hornstein said in a statement to People.
The statement continued: “Lance was the fittest person I have ever met. He exercised daily in his home gym, including extensive cardiovascular work, and the availability of gym facilities was a contractual requirement for his work away from home. He ate as if a dietitian was monitoring each of his meals. The information on the death certificate is totally inconsistent with his lifestyle. In the name of Stephanie Reddick, the information on the death certificate is uncorroborated and inconsistent with facts known to the family.”
When Lance’s death was reported, his representatives said he died of “natural causes.”
