John McCallum Marshall Shaw was a Scottish and Indophile businessman. He was the husband of popular Indian businessman Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. He was suffering from cancer and died on 24 October 2022 at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

John McCallum Marshall Shaw was born in Glasgow, UK in 1949 (age 73 at time of death). After completing his schooling and undergraduate degree, he pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in History and Political Economy at the university. From Glasgow in 1970. Later, he earned a PhD degree from the University of Glasgow, UK.

Reportedly, in 1998, John Shaw offered $2 million to buy the outstanding Biocon shares from ICI. After this he and Kiran Mazumdar Shah married each other. Soon, John Shaw took early retirement from his position as Chairman at Madura Coats, a leading textile MNC, where he served as Chairman and Managing Director till 1999.

In 1999, John Shaw bought back Unilever’s stake in Biocon and helped his wife Kiran Mazumdar expand her business. At the same time, FMCG wanted to sell the shares of the company to a third party. During his tenure at Biocon, he worked as a foreign promoter and advisory board member for several subsidiaries of the Biocon group. He served as the Vice Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Biocon, a Bengaluru headquartered biopharmaceutical company for over twenty-two years.
