Jessica Chastain is making a statement while promoting her new movie.
The Oscar-winning actress, 46, attended the press conference for her new film Memory in it Venice Film Festival 2023 on Friday (September 8) in Venice, Italy.

Jessica was seen wearing a black t-shirt that read “SAG-AFTRA on Strike” while attending the event with her co-star Peter Sarsgaard and director Michel Franco.
During the press conference, Jessica admitted that she was “very nervous” about attending the film festival in the midst of the SAG-AFTRA strike, and revealed that “there were actually some people on my team who advised me against it.”

Jessica went on to note that actors “are often forced to remain silent to protect future work opportunities, and we are often told and reminded how grateful we should be. And that is the environment that I think has allowed labor to be abused and go unchecked for many decades. And it is also the environment that has saddled our union members with unfair contracts,” according to Variety.
Jessica and Peter, 52, were able to promote Memory at the film festival thanks to a tentative SAG-AFTRA agreement.
“I’m here because SAG-AFTRA has been explicitly clear that the way to support the strike is to post on social media, walk the picket line, and work on and support tentative agreement projects,” Jessica said. “It’s what our national board, the negotiating committee and our elected leadership have asked us to do.”
Jessica continued, “Independent producers, like those here, are letting AMPTP know that actors deserve fair compensation, that AI protections must be implemented, and that streaming revenues must be shared.”
“I hope that being here today encourages other independent producers and encourages actors to come forward. [at festivals] and support our union members,” Jessica added. “Hopefully we will see the end of the strike soon and hopefully the AMPTP will return to the table.”
Jessica and Peter aren’t the only actors who were granted permission to attend the film festival amid the strike.
