“It’s a huge loss when you’re the person the eyes are on,” Jennifer responded. “The loss of being able to smile at someone on the street and greet them as yourself is something really intense, something to mourn and not take lightly. And probably a natural outcropping of your success, your beauty and your work.”
He went on to say that “it’s not something to be completely afraid of, but it’s something you need to know for yourself and talk about. Then figure out where you can keep looking and be at ease with yourself and make room for those places.”
Jennifer then agreed with Claire’s comment that being in denial can be a good bargaining tool: “That’s truer now than ever. And maybe just because I’m older now and not at the center of things, it’s calmed me down enough in a way that I’m very grateful for.”
The benefit that came from that? “I can be at Disneyland, funnily enough.”
