He did his schooling from Sri Shikshayatan College and Mahadevi Birla World Academy in Kolkata. He has done B.Com from open schooling. He preached under the patronage of Swami Ramsukhdas and Pandit Vinod Kumar Ji Sahal. Initially he was preached by Pt. Govindram Mishra.

When Jaya was only 7 years old, she sang in a satsang organized during Basant Mahotsav in her locality in Kolkata. When Jaya Kishori was 10 years old, she sang “Sundar Kand” alone, which was liked by the public and attracted Jaya’s attention.

- Pt. Govindram Mishra (his guru) used to call Jaya as ‘Radha’. Seeing her love for Lord Krishna, Govindram gave her the title of ‘Kishori ji’. From that moment on, she is known as Jaya Kishori.
