Singer Jason Mraz opens up about his journey of self-acceptance and sexuality.
In an interview with GLAAD, as reported Too FabThe “I’m Yours” singer talked about healing past relationships and overcoming feelings of “shame” and “guilt” surrounding his sexuality, all while reacting to being in 2023. Outside 100 list.
Mraz, 46, explained: “I had to play many other scenarios before I got here.”
The singer, current contestant on season 32 of dancing with the starsHe continued, “It’s hard to do that and unravel it, and what I’m basically describing is a divorce, you know? And that is very difficult. you are very ashamed [and] blame.”
Mraz also added that “it’s nice” to be in the Outside 100 list. “It’s as hot as the Billboard 100,” she joked.
Mraz on discovering his sexuality: his poem to the LGBTQ community
In a 2018 interview with Billboard, Mraz spoke about his sexuality for the first time. The singer revealed that he had “experiences” with other men, including during his eight-year marriage to his ex-wife Christina Carano.
“I have had experiences with men, including when I was dating the woman who became my wife. It was like, ‘Wow, does that mean I’m gay?’ And my wife explained it to me. She calls him “two-spirit,” which is what Native Americans call someone who can love both man and woman. I really like that,” she said.
Mraz’s interview came a month after he shared a heartfelt “love letter” to the LGBTQ community in June 2018.
“We still have a long way to go,” he wrote. “But you know / I’m on your side. / In every sense”.
