James Neesham started his career in 2011 by playing for the domestic cricket team Auckland. He impressed everyone with his performance in the 50 over format. He played three innings and scored more than 40 runs every time. He is also a bowler and achieved one of his best scores of 5 for 44 against Wellington Firebirds and 4 for 23 against Canterbury.

Interestingly, his career with Auckland started in 2011 against the Wellington Firebirds. Neesham also became the New Zealand player who scored the most runs in an over, scoring 34 runs. In an over which included 5 sixes. He achieved this feat in the match against Sri Lanka on 3 January 2019.
