News about James Dean
James Dean, who died in a car crash in 1955 at the age of 24, unexpectedly returned to the big screen. In the Vietnamese action movie Finding Jack, the cultural icon known for Rebellion Without Cause and East of Heaven was posthumously awarded.
The film, directed by Anton Ernst and Tati Golykh, comes from the director’s newly established production company Magic City Films, which bought the rights to Dean’s character from his family. South African VFX business MOI Global and Canadian VFX brand Imagine Engine will team up to recreate what the directors call a “realistic version of James Dean.”
CGI James Dean reincarnated for Vietnam war action movie
Finding Jack, adapted by Mari Sova from the book by Gareth Crocker, is based on the survival and abandonment of more than 10,000 military dogs after the Vietnam War. As the second lead, Dean will play a character named Rogan.
After months of research, “we chose James Dean as the perfect character to play Rogan, who has some incredibly complex personalities,” said Ernst, who is also producing for Magic City Films with Golykh and Donald A. Barton of Artistry Media Group.
“We are incredibly grateful for his family’s support and will do everything in our power to protect his reputation as one of the most legendary screen actors of all time. The family believes this is his fourth film — one that he never produced. We won’t let his supporters down, we promise.
The Hollywood Reporter learned that while Finding Jack would be a live action, Dean’s performance would be created in “full-body” CGI using actual footage and images. It will have another voice actor.
Multiple The film’s theme song was written by Oscar-nominated artist Diane Warren, while acclaimed composer Laurent Eyquem provided the music.
Finding Jack will begin pre-production on November 17 with a release date slated for Veterans Day 2020 for audiences worldwide. International sales are handled by Magic City Films.
Now, producers are hoping other celebrities will soon benefit from the CGI technology used to bring Dean back to life on screen.
Mark Roesler, CEO of CMG Worldwide, which represents the Dean family along with more than 1,700 other celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, sports, music and history, including the likes of Burt Reynolds, Christopher Reeve, Ingrid Bergman, Neil Armstrong, Bette Davis and Jack Lemmon, said: “This opens up a whole new airline opportunity for many of our customers.
